Brijraj Bhawan Palace Hotel is located on the banks of river Chambal and commands a magnificent view. It is the current residence of the Maharao of Kotah and his family. The Royal family resides in one half of the building, while the other half has been turned into an exclusive hotel. It was opened as a hotel in 1964, and hence is one of the earliest heritage hotels. The Royal family personally looks after the running of the hotel, thus giving it a homely touch.

Maharaja Umed Singh II commissioned Sir Swinton Jacob, a distinguished offer of the Royal Engineers in the British Army to design the Palace.Steeped in history, the Palace hotel subtly blends Rajput and Victorian architecture. Every visiting dignitary, including Queen Mary, who visited Kotah state in 1905, has been entertained at the Umed Bhawan.
