Sariska was once an ancient Rajput state, formerly known as Mewat. In the 12th and 13th centuries, the people of the state formed a group and raided Delhi. But finally Sultan Bulban (1267 A.D. - 1287 A.D.) suppressed them, bringing the area under the Muslims rule. In 1771 A.D. Maharaja Pratap Singh, a Kuchhwaha Rajput belonging to the clan of Jaipur's rulers, won back Alwar and founded a principality of his own. Sariska has one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in Rajasthan. Sariska is well known for its rich natural heritage. Sariska has also a magnificent fort.

Sariska National Park is located among the Aravali hill ranges in the Alwar District of Rajasthan. It covers a large area of 800 sq km in total, with a core area of approximately 500 sq km. It became a National Park in 1979. Apart from the tiger, a variety of other wildlife like the leopard, sambhar, chital, nilgai, four-horned antelope, wild boar, rhesus macaque, langur, hyena and jungle cats are found in the park. Best time to visit Sariska tiger reserve is during the months of October to June.

A beautiful palace was built here by Maharaja Jai Singh in the honor of the Duke of Edinburgh during his visit to the sanctuary. Presently, it has been converted into a hotel- Sariska Palace.

Famous picnic spot, Set quietly against wooded hills. Siliserh is famous for its Lake and enchanting Palace. This resort overlooking the lake is converted into a hotel. A motor launch is available for cruising on the lake.

Among the historic landmarks located within the Sariska national park, includes the Kankwari For, where, Emperor Aurangzeb once imprisoned his brother, Dara Shikoh.
